SCHOOL VISITS

With the approval of the Mombasa County Education office to conduct school visits and train high school girls in Mombasa, we proceeded to invite schools in Mombasa to participate in the project.

Our initial target was get 10 schools to participate in the program, however a total of 11 schools agreed to take part in the project. These schools include both private and public schools and are spread out across the county. School visits begun in March 2016 and our trained Trainer of Trainees (ToTs) were allocated to various schools together with the Pwani Teknowgalz lead trainers.

We would like to thank the following schools for agreeing to participate in Mombasa Girls in STEM.

We conducted Robotics and Engineering training sessions for our ToTs on the 12th and 13th of February 2016. The training was graciously led by Joash Amemba and Faith from Open Build Hacker Space. Open Build’s philosophy of HACK.TEST.SHARE guided the Robotics assembly.  Read More

SCIENCE & GIS

Science and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) training was held on 30th January 2016. The training covered the Sixteen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), The Scientific Method, Introduction to Geospatial technologies and Introduction to Genetics.

The training was led by Umikaltuma Ibrahim and Serah Kahiu from Techwomen Kenya.

SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

Software engineering and web security training sessions were held on 23rd January 2016 at the Office of the Senator in Kizingo, Mombasa. The aim of the training was for the trainers to learn software basics that will help students in understanding the basic theory of software engineering and be able apply these basic theoretical principles to a group software development project.
